AMD has officially confirmed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU, marking a faster iteration of its popular 3D V-Cache lineup. This new processor builds upon the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, offering significant performance improvements for gamers seeking high-speed processing with enhanced cache technology. AMD revealed the listing on its support page without a formal announcement.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D retains the same 8-core, 16-thread design but boosts its clock speeds by 400 MHz, reaching a max boost clock of 5.6 GHz compared to the 5.2 GHz on its predecessor. The base clock remains at 4.7 GHz. This increase in clock speeds enhances gaming and multi-threaded workloads, pushing the performance envelope further.

Equipped with AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache technology, the 9850X3D stacks additional L3 cache on the processor cores, amplifying cache-sensitive performance significantly. It features a total of 104 MB combined L2 and L3 cache, reducing latency and accelerating data retrieval, ideal for gaming and demanding applications. The chip operates with a 120W TDP.

The CPU supports the AM5 socket architecture, making it compatible with the latest motherboards and technologies such as DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0. This ensures future-proofing for users looking to build or upgrade gaming rigs with the newest, fastest peripherals and storage solutions.

AMD is expected to officially launch the Ryzen 7 9850X3D at CES 2026 alongside the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, its higher-end sibling. These refreshed CPUs will continue AMD’s dominant position in the gaming CPU market, particularly in ultra-high-performance segments where cache and clock speed improvements translate directly to better frame rates and responsiveness.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D features advanced power and thermal efficiencies despite its higher clock speeds, thanks to AMD’s refined manufacturing processes using TSMC’s 4nm FinFET technology. It also supports AMD’s Precision Boost and Curve Optimizer tech, enhancing performance scaling under various workloads.

Below is a table summarizing the key specifications of the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D:
